As a queer cis person, I want to bring attention to the importance of cervical cancer screenings for people of ALL genders with cervixes. We need to make sure these screenings are accessible and LGBTQAI+ friendly so that the medical establishment is not discriminating against folks of different genders. Not only that, but funding and support for Pap screenings are vitally important. I’m going to tell you something super personal – I was diagnosed with a strain of HPV years ago and I would have never been able to protect my partners had it not been for that cervical exam. Luckily, I had a strain that went away on its own but not everyone is so lucky. With widespread access to Pap screenings for people regardless of gender or sexual orientation, we can fight back against cervical cancer.
